Last Weekends Modern Tag Sale Scores

Went out on Friday and Sunday and got some nice stuff.

This set of Moe Lights will go in boxes til I own a house, A retractable and 2 sconces in red.. Even better they where not prices and I askjed he how much she said "make an offer" I said $10 and she said "well I was think $7 so how does $7 sound?" I replied..Sounds Great!! The white parts are glass and the red are plastic :)

The same nice lady had this sweet teapot for $1..I scored some other stuff from her but nothing modern to speak off. Just some records , books and old tools.

Another Stop netted this serving tray for 50 cents

And this Desk Lamp for $1

And this piece I think might be Blenko for another $1

Sunday I went to an unadvertised Sale not to far from me that my mom had gone to on Saturday and did good at (yes my moms a picker too) I scored some cool records there and and few odds and ends. I also scored a couple of really nice pieces of Bitossi Art Pottery (possible a Aldo Londi Design) for the ever so expensive price of 50 cents for the covered box and the dish set.

Also got this cool cork pencil holder for 25 cents..I like the thumb tacks that came stuck in it :)

Davis Geo Paintings part 2

The second Geo is also a Davis painting like the last one I posted this painting was done in 1947. This painting is not named or the name is missing as part of a tag from a art show on the backside of it is missing that would have had the price and could have had the name of the painting on it. The painting was shown/sold? at The Sixty-Seventh Annual exhibition of the San Francisco Art Association at The San Francisco Museum of Art on February 25 to March 28 1948. The painting is egg tempera on canvas. This painting is spotless and perfect in every way with no damage. The painting seems a bit more experimental than the first one I posted and has a lot more going for it, I guess if I could name it I would call it "Fish & Arrows" it does combine many different techniques for applying paint which where pretty unique for the times.

I did not have very good pictures of this one,,Blah

Mid Century Paintings. painting #1 Spatial Rhythms

I have some Mid Century Modern Art that I figured I would blog about as the paintings are some of my favorite possessions. Most of my original art is by 2 different artists. I have 10 painting by one artist and 2 from another. Doing the tag sale hustle does pay of with great stuff from time to time. The first painting is the one in my avatar. It is 1 of 4 similar themed paintings I have I refer to these 4 as the "Geo's" This one is was painted in 1948 and is named Spatial Rhythms. The painting is Egg Tempera on Canvas. There is no price or show information on the back of this one but going off the others I would imagine this was about a $100 to $125 dollar painting in 1948. The artist is man named Jack Davis who actually has a very interesting painting career. He is a old timer but I was able to reach him on the phone and talk to him about his paintings and he was a very nice guy who seemed thrilled that I like his art. Most of my paintings from him come from early in his career. The guy was pretty cool not many 90+ year old guys know what a Wassily Chair is.

This painting is of medium size and is probably the most damaged of the bunch with some cracks in the paint here and there but the camera seems to emphasize them thats for sure!!
